Kenny Chesney is recording and mixing new material at Ocean Way St. Barths, the recording studio at the famed Eden Rock resort in the heart of the Caribbean.

Chesney is working with producer and songwriter Buddy Cannon (Reba McEntire, George Jones, George Strait) on his first album since 2010′s hit “Hemingway’s Whiskey.”

Chesney’s road manager, Malchijah Bailey, remarked,

“The time we spent mixing at the studio was great. Anytime you can work all day, walk out of the studio and be greeted by an amazing beach, makes you feel like it’s not work. The vibe was awesome, and kept us all in good musical spirits.”

Kenny Chesney fans will want to tune into the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 1. The superstar is planning a major reveal at the show, choosing to perform the first single from his brand new album, according to a representative from his label BNA. It’s certainly interesting that the title of the single has not yet been determined but the live premiere has! Even so, Chesney fans will take it.
Chesney’s new album — which is also waiting for a title — will be released on June 19, smack dab in the middle of his Brothers of the Sun tour with Tim McGraw.

This is all reason enough to be glued to the TV on Sunday, April 1 at 8 PM when the ACMs air on CBS, right? What a way to ramp up excitement for the ceremony and for new Chesney material.

There’ll be plenty of Chesney to go around at the ACMs beyond the live bow of his new single. The singer was honored with a total of nine ACM nominations, including Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year for ‘Hemingway’s Whiskey.’ Chesney’s duet with Grace Potter — the chart-topping ‘You and Tequila’ — earned the singer nods in several other categories, such as Song of the Year, Single of the Year and Vocal Event of the Year.

“It’s an honor to receive so much love from the Academy of Country Music after all they’ve done to support my music over the years,” the always classy Chesney said at the time the nominations were revealed. “I can’t wait to get back on the road and throw one big spring break party all summer long.”

And we can’t wait to hear the new single during the broadcast.

Pas mal la pochette de l'album !
Avec l'eau en fond, les couleurs "vert jaune rouge" qui rappel les couleurs de la Jamaique on est en droit de penser que le disque va très caribbean !
J'espere ... un bon p'tit Kenny Chesney bien Caribbean Country juste avant l'été !

Chesney says the unique title spawned from a conversation he had at a beach bar called The Red Bar in Grayton Beach, Florida. He was with some of his football-playing friends when the idea came to him.

“We walked in, and it was packed,” Chesney recalls (quote via “USA Today”). “There was about 20 minutes of people coming up, saying hello, wanting to get something signed.

“After that died down, one of those guys said, ‘I didn’t realize your life was like this.’ I said, ‘Hey, man, welcome to the fishbowl.’ As soon as I said it, I realized that I was going to write a song about how our world and our culture is shrinking.”

The title track isn’t necessarily about being a celebrity and dealing with the pressures of fame though.

“In fact, at the end of the song I speak to celebrities and say, ‘You asked for this,’ ” Chesney says. “But you don’t have to be in the public eye for your business to be everybody’s business. And that’s just the way it is.”

As for the rest of the songs on Welcome to the Fishbowl, Chesney says fans can expect great songs as well as songs that will continue to fill football stadiums.

“I think that’s what I’m enjoying about this part in my career,” he says, “and the new album’s going to show that even more. Not a lot of artists, especially if they’re as mainstream as me, have that freedom.”

On June 2, Chesney will embark on one of this summer’s hottest concert tours, the “Brothers of the Sun” Tour, alongside his good buddy Tim McGraw.

“We start rehearsing (for the tour) after the ACMs, and we start piecing it all together,” says Chesney.

Chesney says he plans to preview at least three new songs in his set while on tour this summer.

“I try to fill my sets full of songs that everybody lives with every day. To play a new song in a stadium, you might lose people. They might tune out for three minutes. But I’m at a point in my life where I want to play them new music. I want them to know we might do ‘Fishbowl’ and a couple more.”

“I’m looking forward to playing new music for everybody,” he adds. “It’s going to be an incredibly fun and passionate summer.”

While no official announcement has been made, a source with Chesney’s record label previously confirmed the singer would be debuting his new single at the ACM Awards this Sunday. Yesterday, an official announcement was made that Chesney and McGraw would be singing together on the Las Vegas stage.

Typically Nashville politics make it difficult to get two major stars together on a radio single, but since McGraw is not currently signed to a record label, he has the freedom to record and release music with whomever he wants. Of course the long-time friends will have plenty of opportunities to perform this song together, as the Brothers of the Sun Tour kicks off on June 2 in Tampa, Fla.

More details about that tour were also made available on Friday. McGraw will hit the stage first, then Chesney. Each will play their own sets before joining forces for one superset.

‘Welcome to the Fishbowl’ will be in stores on June 19. It’s Chesney’s first album since 2010′s ‘Hemingway’s Whiskey.’ This news could be bad news for McGraw fans hoping to hear new music from him soon. It’s unlikely he’ll release a new single while this duet with Chesney is on the Billboard charts.
